Use gAI to assist with Image Description
Readers learn to draft alt text and longer image descriptions with generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, applying the page's rules for a 120-character alt-text limit, describing only what is visible in the image, and checking outputs against their own subject-matter knowledge before publishing. Three worked examples with real Copilot queries and responses show how to refine prompts, strip out details the AI invented or that are not visible in the image, and implement long descriptions in PowerPoint appendix slides or separate Canvas pages with links to and from the image. After working through it, faculty can produce, edit and quality-check accessible image descriptions for their own course materials instead of writing them from scratch.
