Living guidelines on the responsible use of generative AI in research
Seventeen pages split concrete recommendations three ways, for individual researchers, for research organisations, and for funding bodies, covering disclosure of AI use in methods sections and grant applications, the rule against uploading unpublished or sensitive material to an external system, and the expectation that AI stays out of peer review and proposal evaluation. Reading the researcher and organisation sections together gives a research office a ready-made spine for its own policy, while the funder section tells an applicant which declarations to expect to be asked for. This third edition adds guidance on third-party AI interactions and on hidden prompts concealed inside submitted documents, which is a new integrity risk for anyone who handles applications.
