Integrating Generative AI into Syllabus Components
Vanderbilt takes a syllabus apart into six components and asks a different AI question of each one, so that course goals, learning outcomes, course structure, assignments, your stated teaching philosophy and the integrity policy all end up saying the same thing rather than contradicting each other. Every outcome gets mapped to a level of permitted AI use, from prohibited through limited to encouraged, which is what turns a vague paragraph into a rule a student can follow. It deliberately gives you decision checklists rather than boilerplate to paste, on the argument that the pedagogical reason has to drive the policy rather than be bolted on afterwards.
