Artificial Intelligence and Academic Professions
The American Association of University Professors surveyed around five hundred members across nearly two hundred campuses and found that seventy-one per cent report their administration leads AI decisions with minimal faculty input, that sixty-two per cent say AI has made their teaching environment worse, and that ninety-one per cent are concerned about generative-AI plagiarism. The report turns those findings into five concrete asks a department or senate can put on an agenda, covering shared governance over procurement, protection of instructional materials from training datasets, a meaningful right to refuse a system without penalty, and a prohibition on using AI in employment decisions. If you have been told that faculty concern about campus AI is a minority position held by a few holdouts, this is the document that answers it with numbers and with specific language you can borrow.
