The University's policies on AI
Oxford's library guide sets out what the University's policies actually require of researchers and teachers using generative AI: authorship stays with people who take responsibility for the work, intellectual property and sensitive data must be protected, and substantive AI use in research must be disclosed. For teaching it states that AI is allowed in assessment only where explicitly permitted and must be declared, with unauthorised use treated as academic misconduct. Readers come away able to point to a written institutional rule rather than a guess when a student or collaborator asks what is allowed.
